How the Backspace.me relay network operates
Every message encrypted with AES-256-GCM before leaving your device. Ed25519 signatures verify authenticity. Relay nodes never see plaintext.
Relay nodes sync via WebSocket mesh using msgpackr binary protocol. No single point of failure. The network grows as more nodes join.
Clients connect to two nodes simultaneously. If primary drops, standby promotes instantly with zero downtime.
Mint unique usernames by contributing uptime to the network. Canary-verified, cryptographically signed, no wasted energy.
Messages are relayed through the network with 7-day TTL. Gzip compressed, auto-purged. No permanent storage.
No analytics. No telemetry. No tracking. Relay nodes know your IP and public key, nothing else.
